Ongoing projects from the SEA START RRC include: • A multi-year research, capacity building and policy project on “Impacts of Global Change on Water and Wetland Resources in the Mekong River” • “Biogenic and Anthropogenic Emissions and Air Quality Modeling” • “Sustainable Livelihoods and Biodiversity in the Uplands of Southeast Asia” • “Effects of Atmospheric Aerosols on Solar Radiation, Clouds, and the Regional Climate” • “Advanced Training Workshop on Regional Climate and Air Quality Modeling” • “Urbanization and Carbon Cycle Management for Asian Cities” • “Sustainable Development Indicators for Southeast Asia” • “South China Sea Carbon Cycle Study” • “Climate Change, Water Resources and Rice Farming in the Lower Mekong River Basin” More information may be found at: www.start.or.th Anond Snidvongs Dr. Louis Lebel, Southeast Asia Regional START Committee Secretariat The Southeast Asia Regional START Committee (SARCS) Secretariat is located in Chung-Li, Taiwan at National Central University. Over the past few years, SARCS has focused on carbon and water issues. This approach of focused research support and training has allowed for the development of strong research networks, collaboration, improved efficiency, and significant outputs. The “Southeast Asia regional carbon and water study” research project, lead by Prof. Arthur Chen, was initiated in 2005 and is scheduled to continue through 2008. Funding support is from the National Science Council of Taiwan. Eighteen funded sub-projects were conducted by co-investigators from the Southeast Asia region. In addition, a series of regional advanced training workshops were conducted as a part of this project. Over 60 regional scientists participated in these capacity building events. More information on SARCS may be found on the web at: http://www.sarcs.org
